Trump Declared “Fully Fit” for Presidency After Comprehensive Medical Examination

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump remains in “excellent health” and is “fully fit” to carry out the responsibilities of commander in chief, according to a medical report released following a comprehensive examination at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

The assessment, authored by presidential physician Dr. Sean Barbabella, describes the president as being in strong overall physical and cognitive condition after undergoing an extensive series of medical evaluations. The examination reportedly involved a team of 22 medical specialists and included cardiac testing, advanced imaging, cancer screenings, preventive-health assessments and a detailed physical examination.

The report concluded that Trump’s cognitive and physical performance remain excellent and that he is capable of continuing to meet the demanding responsibilities of the presidency.

Medical Examination Covers Broad Range of Health Tests

According to the report, Trump weighed 238 pounds during the examination, approximately 14 pounds more than he weighed during his April 2025 physical.

At 6 feet, 3 inches tall, his reported body mass index was 29.7, placing him just below the commonly used BMI threshold of 30 for obesity. Physicians nevertheless recommended continued attention to diet, exercise and weight management as part of his long-term health plan.

Despite those recommendations, the physician characterized Trump’s overall condition positively and said his physical capabilities remain strong.

The examination also documented minor bruising on Trump’s hands. The report attributed the bruising to frequent handshaking and described it as a benign effect associated with aspirin therapy.

Trump is reportedly taking three medications, including two cholesterol-lowering medications and aspirin.

Cognitive Testing Produces Perfect Score

One of the most closely watched aspects of the examination involved Trump’s cognitive performance.

The president underwent the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, a standardized screening tool frequently used to evaluate aspects of cognitive function. According to the medical report, Trump scored 30 out of 30, a perfect score.

The result was consistent with scores reported from previous examinations, according to the information released by his physician.

Barbabella wrote that Trump’s cognitive and physical performance were “excellent” and concluded that he was fully capable of carrying out the duties associated with both the presidency and his role as commander in chief.

The assessment comes at a time when questions about presidential age and fitness remain a major issue in American politics.

Trump, who is approaching his 80th birthday, was already the oldest person ever elected president when he returned to office for a second term.

Cholesterol Levels Show Significant Improvement

The medical report also highlighted what physicians described as substantial improvement in Trump’s cholesterol levels.

His total cholesterol was reported at 143, significantly lower than the 223 recorded in 2018.

Doctors attributed the improvement in part to medications including rosuvastatin, which is commonly prescribed to reduce LDL cholesterol, and ezetimibe, which can further lower LDL levels.

The findings were presented as evidence that Trump’s cardiovascular risk factors are being actively monitored and managed.

The report also addressed a condition previously disclosed by the White House: chronic venous insufficiency.

The condition can cause blood to pool in the lower extremities and may result in swelling, particularly in older adults. Physicians noted slight swelling in Trump’s lower legs but said the condition had improved compared with the previous year.

Physician Says Trump Can Handle Presidential Demands

Beyond individual test results, Barbabella emphasized Trump’s ability to maintain an unusually demanding schedule.

The physician pointed to the president’s extensive daily workload, including high-level meetings, public appearances and regular physical activity, as part of the overall assessment of his health.

The report found no significant abnormal findings that would prevent Trump from carrying out his presidential responsibilities.

The conclusion is likely to receive considerable political attention because presidential health has become an increasingly important issue for voters.

Unlike private citizens, presidents operate under intense public scrutiny, and questions about their physical and cognitive condition can quickly become political issues.

There is no constitutional requirement that a president publicly release a complete medical record. Nevertheless, modern presidents have frequently disclosed portions of their medical evaluations as a way of reassuring the public about their ability to serve.

Health and Politics Collide

The timing of Trump’s latest medical disclosure is particularly significant.

The United States is approaching another major election cycle, with the 2026 midterm elections expected to produce intense political battles over the administration’s policies and the balance of power in Congress.

Trump’s age and health are therefore likely to remain subjects of public discussion, particularly as his administration moves deeper into its second term.

The latest report gives the White House a strong medical assessment to point to as questions about the president’s ability to maintain the demands of the office continue to surface.

At the same time, the report does not eliminate the broader debate surrounding presidential longevity, age and transparency.

The health of a sitting president is both a personal medical matter and a matter of significant public interest because the president carries enormous constitutional responsibilities, including command of the U.S. military and authority over critical national-security decisions.

For now, Trump’s physician is offering a clear conclusion: despite his age and some ongoing health considerations, the president remains physically and cognitively capable of performing the duties of the office.

The medical assessment provides the administration with a significant political and public-relations boost, while ensuring that questions surrounding Trump’s age, health and ability to serve will remain part of the national conversation as the country heads toward another consequential election cycle.
