President Donald Trump has been declared in “excellent health” and “fully fit” to perform the duties of commander in chief following a comprehensive medical examination at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, according to a report from the president’s physician.
The medical evaluation, conducted by a team of 22 specialists, included an extensive series of examinations and preventive health assessments. According to physician Dr. Sean Barbabella, Trump underwent advanced cardiac imaging, a CT scan, cancer screenings and additional testing designed to provide a broad assessment of his physical and cognitive condition.
The report concluded that Trump remains capable of carrying out the demanding responsibilities of the presidency. Barbabella described the president’s “cognitive and physical performance” as excellent and said Trump was fully fit to perform his duties as commander in chief and head of state.
The examination also provided updated information about Trump’s weight and cardiovascular health. Trump reportedly weighed 238 pounds, approximately 14 pounds more than his recorded weight during his April 2025 physical. At 6 feet, 3 inches tall, his calculated body mass index was 29.7, just below the commonly used BMI threshold of 30 for obesity.
Doctors reportedly recommended continued attention to diet, physical activity and weight management while emphasizing that the president remains in strong overall health.
The report also addressed bruising observed on Trump’s hands. Physicians attributed the bruising to minor soft-tissue irritation associated with frequent handshaking and described it as a benign effect associated with aspirin therapy. The medical team recommended the use of low-dose aspirin.
Trump’s cardiovascular risk factors were another major focus of the examination. His cholesterol levels were reported to have improved substantially compared with earlier measurements. Total cholesterol was recorded at 143, compared with 223 in 2018. Doctors attributed the improvement in part to medications including rosuvastatin and ezetimibe, which are commonly used to manage cholesterol levels and reduce cardiovascular risk.
The report also provided an update on Trump’s previously disclosed chronic venous insufficiency, a condition that can affect blood circulation in the legs and cause swelling. Physicians noted that Trump continued to exhibit slight swelling in his lower legs, but said the condition had improved compared with the previous year.
Beyond cardiovascular and physical assessments, Trump underwent cognitive screening using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, a commonly used screening tool for potential cognitive impairment. According to the report, Trump received a perfect score of 30 out of 30, consistent with scores previously reported during earlier examinations.
The physician also cited Trump’s demanding daily schedule, including high-level meetings, public appearances and regular physical activity, as factors associated with his overall level of functioning.
The release of the medical report comes amid continued public interest in presidential health and fitness. Trump, who is approaching his 80th birthday, is the oldest person to have served as president, making his physical and cognitive condition a recurring subject of public discussion.
Presidential medical disclosures have historically attracted significant attention, particularly during election periods. However, presidents are not legally required to release their complete medical records, meaning the information made public typically reflects the assessments and disclosures their physicians choose to provide.
The latest examination is expected to fuel further discussion about Trump’s health as his administration moves toward the 2026 midterm elections. While the report offers a positive assessment from his medical team, questions surrounding presidential age, stamina and long-term health are likely to remain part of the broader national conversation.
For now, however, Trump’s physician has delivered a clear conclusion: the president remains medically capable of performing the demanding responsibilities of the office.
