TRIKALA, Greece — A devastating fire at a biscuit manufacturing facility near the central Greek city of Trikala has claimed the lives of four women, prompting a major emergency response and a nationwide discussion about industrial workplace safety.
The blaze erupted during the early morning hours at the Violanta biscuit factory, approximately 200 miles north of Athens. Firefighters and emergency personnel rushed to the scene after reports of a fire inside the industrial complex, where employees were working an overnight shift.
